Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite have recently implemented a new security feature known as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to help users keep their accounts safe.
2FA adds a secondary layer of protection when logging in to your account. Hence, keeping profiles safe from unauthorized access. Enabling the feature will allow players to use the gifting system. Players who enable 2FA will also receive the Boogiedown emote as a bonus reward.
What is 2FA?
2FA stands for 2 Factor Authentication. As stated by Epic Games, 2FA “can be used to help protect your account from unauthorized access by requiring you to enter an additional code when you sign in.” Epic Game’s system currently allows players to receive this code either via Email, SMS, or a third-party Authenticator App.
Users who enable 2FA will be required to type in the code when they first log in to their account after enabling the feature. Users will also have to type in the given codes when they use a new device, if it’s been 30 days since the last log in, or if they cleared cookies and cache from their device. This way, Epic Games will understand that the player authorized that login.
How to enable 2FA?
The first step is to go to the 2FA page on Epic Games’ website. Players will notice a “Get Started Here ” link after scrolling down a bit. Clicking on that will redirect you to the “Password and Security” tab in Account Settings. Once there, the following options for authentication will be available: Authenticator App, SMS, or Email.

Authenticator App
If a user chooses to use an Authenticator App, a new pop-up will appear with the steps to enable it. The user is required to click the link and download the authenticator app. Then, scan the QR code on the left of the pop-up and sign in with the code you receive immediately after. Henceforth, that app will authenticate any future devices you use to log-in.
Google Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy are all viable options for this method.

SMS Authentication
This is a pretty straightforward method where an SMS with the authentication code will be sent to the user’s mobile. When this option is selected, a pop-up will appear asking the user to input their mobile number. Click on “Send Code” and you will receive a code in the form of an SMS.

Email Authentication
If a user selects Email Authentication, the authentication code will be directly sent to the user’s Email ID linked to their Epic Games account. This method of 2FA is, by far, the one with the fewest steps. Henceforth, all future codes will be sent to this linked Email.

Once 2FA for your account is activated, you will receive the Boogiedown emote and all gifting features will be enabled in Fortnite.
